Cuckoo Clock Repair

Has anyone ever told you that if you have cuckoo clock repair work to be done, it is not worth your time? So many people will say it is easier to get a new cuckoo clock than to just repair an old one. Depending on what needs to be repaired on a cuckoo clock, it may be easier to get a new clock.  Often times, its not "just a clock" when talking about cuckoo clocks. There can be much sentimental value for a person that owns a cuckoo clock. It could be handed down to you from a grandparent. Or just one you bought when you were on vacation that is irreplaceable.

repair cuckoo clockWith the internet now days, it is becoming easier to find the parts needed to repair a cuckoo clock. There are many clock shops that are willing to repair cuckoo clocks. These shops carry everything needed for repairing cuckoo clocks from the pendulum to the cuckoo itself. These shops also offer videos on repairing cuckoo clocks. Just remember, if you do order the repair parts, make sure they are the exact parts you need. So if you do want to repair your cuckoo clock, that is an option, just a little time consuming.

Here are a few things to consider when having someone else repair your cuckoo clock.

If you live in a small town, do you want to take the chance of sending your clock through the mail to a clock repair shop? If your cuckoo clock has sentimental value, do you want to put it in the german cuckoo clock repairhands of the mail carrier? Just because you have written on the box "handle with care" doesn’t mean proper care is always taken. Your cuckoo clock could be in worse condition when it returns to you than the day you had sent it, which requires more repairing or even being unrepairable.

How much will it cost to send your cuckoo clock off for repairs? Shipping your cuckoo clock to the repair shop plus the parts and service and then the shipping back to you can add up.

Is there a clock repair shop in your area you can take your cuckoo clock to? Are you able to pack up you clock in a box and drive it down to the clock repair shop? If so, this may be the way you want to go. Someone specializing in cuckoo clock repair has the knowledge and expertise needed for fixing your special clock.

Other questions to ask yourself is, what needs to be repaired on your cuckoo clock? Is it something that is easy to repair? Do you have to take the cuckoo clock apart to get to the inside movements? How easy will it be to put your clock back together?

These are all questions that you need to ask yourself. You are the only one that can answer them as well. Cuckoo clocks are not just another clock that you have in your home. The cuckoo clock you own means something to you and is hard to replace. When you encounter a problem with your cuckoo clock, you don’t just throw it away and start looking for a new one. You are throwing memories away when throwing your cuckoo clock away.

In conclusion, cuckoo clocks can be repaired at home or sent to a clock repair shop. It all depends on how well you are with your hands. Shipping your cuckoo clock through the mail takes the chance of getting broke or possibly even lost. That may not be a chance you want to take if your cuckoo clock has sentimental value. A cuckoo clock with sentimental value is irreplaceable. The best thing to do is, figure out what the problem is with your cuckoo clock and do a little research. Figure out the complete cost of shipping and repairs if you do want to send off your cuckoo clock. Look into ordering the parts needed to repair your clock. Talk to friends and family, maybe they know how to repair a cuckoo clock and would be willing to fix it for you for a small fee or even free of charge.

Cleaning A Cuckoo Clock

Posted by admin on February 12th, 2009

When it comes time to clean your cuckoo clock, it is essential that you take the proper steps to ensure any potential damage to the timepiece. Clocks that are cleaned by improper methods can cause these items to shift, break, or become damaged so that the clock will fail to keep the proper time or stop working completely. If you are concerned about the status of your clock, consider taking it to a professional clockmaker or a jeweler who specializes in clocks for a cleaning or repairs so you can be certain your clock will last to cuckoo again.

When it comes time to clean you cuckoo clock, consider the clock itself is two actual pieces. The first piece of the clock is the case. Typically made of solid hardwoods, the case of your clock should be properly maintained to keep the beauty of the wood. Additionally, most cuckoo clocks are decorated with heavy carvings or wooden figurines, so you should take great care in cleaning the more decorative clocks due to the fragility of these items. Finally, clocks that have painted details or decorations should be carefully cleaned, since some cleansing agents can remove or damage the wood’s finish or the paint itself. Turn to products that will gently remove and dirt, grime, and build up accumulated over the years of display or storage. For general cleaning, avoid using furniture polishes or waxes that can add to your problem. Instead, consider dry dusting or use products made with natural oils like lemon oil or orange oil to keep the wood properly nourished to prevent cracking.

The main workings of the clock are held within the case. These workings are often tiny and intricate, proving to be easily lost or damaged, so take the cleaning process with the utmost care. Before you begin the cleaning process, assemble the necessary cleaning tools. Often, the best tool you can use to cleaning clocks or any other items with small working parts is a simple Q-tip and soapy water. Take care not to soak the clock or any materials with water or any other liquid. Also, use a gentle touch to swab the piece instead of scrubbing the items. Although dirt or grime can stop a clock from running, the workings of a clock do not need to be scrubbed clean in order to work. Unless you have experience working with clocks, it is strongly suggested that you leave the heavy cleanings to the professionals.

A cuckoo clock is a great piece to add character and beauty to any home. Having a clock in clean and working condition is essential for any owner of a cuckoo clock, especially if you are looking to keep the clock as an heirloom piece for future generations.

What can I use to clean and lubricate a cuckoo clock?

My cuckoo clock stopped ticking. I removed the back cover and noticed that the mechanism is dry and dusty.I was thinking of using brake parts cleaner. It is an old 8 day clock.

Tick Tock…Cool Clocks

For example, one of the clock’s above from CB2 might be a good fit for a designer who appreciates things that are clean and graphic. A cuckoo clock might be found in the home of someone who has a sense of humor and a vintage style.
